Pay Attention to Your Periodontal Health

According to MedlinePlus, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health, about 80% of U.S. adults have some form of gum disease, ranging from gingivitis to the various forms and stages of periodontitis. The prevalence of gum disease increases with age because teeth wear down and become more sensitive with time, gums naturally recede, and medications can affect oral health.

Warning Signs of Gum Disease

If your gums feel tender or sore, or if they look red and swollen, you might have gum disease. Other warning signs include bleeding and/or receding gums, pain or sensitivity in your teeth (and even loose teeth caused by weakening gum fibers or bone loss), and persistent bad breath. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to tooth loss as well as various serious health problems.

Treatment for Gum Disease

If you have any degree of gum disease, we can help you understand the best treatment option. Gum disease used to require surgery more often than not. While surgery is still an option and sometimes needed, many cases are now treated with less invasive techniques first, such as deep dental cleanings, local antibiotics, and special mouth rinses.

Dr. Bell and Dr. Walker are general dentists with offices in Holly Springs and Angier that treat periodontitis or gum disease.

Dr. Spal is an extraordinary healthcare provider. I recommend her. She's kind, considerate, and present. I had my first appointment and she checked in with me throughout my dental work, she worked in small breaks, Dr. Spal did not rush me and we still finished early.
Barry
Very good first visit with Dr Spal today. Explained what she was doing, got me out quickly, and everything was painless (although the work was fairly minor in nature). Very happy, certainly would recommend.

I was a little nervous about going to a new dentist after 20 years and I've been very happy with Dr.. Spal. She's great about letting you know exactly what she's doing with each step. Also, a big hour out to Diane!

From cleanings to more acute procedures the staff and Dr. Spal have carried themselves with integrity and true empathy and care. I recommend Dr. Spal’s practice to everyone and even have my immediate family now attending for all oral hygiene related procedures and care.

Dr. Spal and her staff are not just excellent at dental care, they are just as impressive with their people skills - a rarity in today's world. Dr. Spal is great at letting you know what task she's about to perform which puts me/you at ease. I strongly recommend their services. You'll be glad you did!
